The
President of India, Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the new building of
Rashtrapati Bhavan Post Office on 24 July 2014.
Post
Office was relocated from a heritage building as part of measures to implement
the Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan for the President’s Estate.
The
Rashtrapati Bhavan Post Office started functioning as Viceroy’s Camp Post
Office at Shimla on 10 June 1904.
In
the year 1948, Rashtrapati Bhavan Post Office was renamed as Governor-General
Post Office. In 1950 it was again renamed as President-Camp Post Office.
Finally, on 7 December 1950, it was named Rashtrapati Bhavan Post Office. This
Post Office caters to the needs of President’s Secretariat as well as residents
of the President’s Estate.
