Google
today announced the launch of a new tool called ‘Know Your Candidates’. The
tool is part of Google elections 2014 platform, google.co.in/elections.
According
to a company statement, the tool will allow users to get easy access to
relevant information about political candidates contesting from their
constituency and their current Member of Parliament. Users can check out the
tool at this link here.
The
tool is using information that is publicly available on MPs, candidates, and
which has been put out by organisations like Association for Democratic Reforms
(ADR), PRS Legislative Research and Liberty Institute India.
Users
can simply type in the Pin Code of their respective constituency and they will
get information on their current MP. As far as other candidates are concerned,
users will get information approximately one week before the polls are due to
begin. Users also get to know when a city or place will go to vote. You can
also simply type the name of the place, if you don’t know the Pin Code.
The
tool will provide valuable information for each sitting Lok Sabha MP and
contesting candidates such as their disclosed educational background, financial
details and social media presence (wherever available) including video bios of
the candidates provided by Ping networks.
The
details are mapped onto Google Maps interface and users can zoom on their
locality on the map.
