Majority of the central government employees in Tamil
Nadu abstained from work and participated in the strike called by the
Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers on Wednesday.
J. Ramamurthy, president of the Confederation of Central
Government Employees and Workers, Tamil Nadu said a total of 36,000 central
employees were there in the State, of which 33,000 participated in the strike
called by the Confederation.
Since morning many central government offices wore a
deserted look with the absence of employees.
The strike was in protest against the apathetic response
of the Centre to demands put forth by the confederation to be included in the
Seventh Pay Commission. The demands included DA merger, interim relief, and
redress of issues raised by the grameen dak sevak (GAD) workers of India Post.
