2013
was an important year as far as India Post is concerned. Number of new initiatives was taken and number
of experiments was happened in the year 2013 where some of them smell failure
and some others succeeded in all respect.
Achievements were more compared to failure. The India Post has changed a lot for the last
three or four years but the work done in that years were only a preparation for
something happened in 2013. So the
history of India Post can be divided into two periods i.e., before 2013 and
after 2013, based on the new services started and new technological changes
happened.
2013
was actually an implementation year.
India Post popularised the ePayment facility in 2013 by strictly
implementing and monitoring epayment facility in all computerised Post Offices
in India, earlier epayment service of India Post was not a faithful option for Institutions
seeking the service of banks for collecting various examination fees and other
charges. India Post proved its
efficiency in this field in 2013 by successfully collecting CBSE NEET
examination fee, CBSE AIPMET examination fees, fees for examination conducted
by RRBs, etc.
The
most successful technological implementation in 2013 was eFMS( Electronic Fund
Management System) Even though there is
no centralised database for Saving Banks schemes, India Post successfully
implemented eFMS by utilising the reach and strength of eMO network. In this field competition was from banks having
CBS facility so the glow of victory of India Post was noticeable.
Another
successful implementation in 2013 was Mobile Money Remittance. This simple but far reachable service was a
successful collaboration between India Post and BSNL. Cost factor and its reach are the main
attractive factors of MMT service. India
Post can spread this service upto BO level without much cost since this service
works on mobile technology and uses GSM networks.
India
Post redefined the handling of all registered articles by introducing new Rnet
and ParcelNet software. Now all the
registered articles including Parcels have come under the Track and trace
facility like Express Mail Service.
Track and Trace facility is very important in this modern environment.
IFS
MO was another milestone in the year 2013.
Attractiveness of this service is its simplified operating
procedure. Like eFMS, IFS MO also using
the strong network of eMO. So the
operating procedure is very familiar to all employees of the India Post. Popularity of IFS MO among public is very
poor so vide publicity is necessary both in India and in abroad to compete with
International giants like Western Union, MoneyGram, etc.
The
most awaited technological implementation of India Post, Core Banking Solution
started in the year 2013. Very few
offices in pilot Circles have been rolled out for CBS in December 2013. Internet banking on test basis has also
started along with CBS migration. By the
introduction of CBS, India Post is moving to an International platform called
Finacle, the Core Banking Solution of Infosys.
Starting
of COD facility by introducing new two services, Business Parcel and Express
Parcel was an another new thing happened in 2013. Some difficulties were
happened in its implementation but now the service is going well. The parcel service will be the most income
generating source of India Post in future.
Another COD service SP-COD introduced in 2013 and signed agreement with
Amazon India and started testing in selected offices but not heard more about
this service. The faith of eVP service
was not good as expected. Stopping of
EPP service without spreading the Express Parcel facility across the country
has made confusion among regular EPP customers.
We
can expect more miracle in 2014, but it will be a continuation of good thing
happened in 2013.
