Postal
Directorate has finally decided to stop the MO Videsh service with immediate effect. The circulars regarding discontinuation of
booking of MO Videsh (Eurogiro) has been given to all Circles. The service was launched on 24.10.2009 to
facilitate remittances to foreign countries and receiving of remittances from
foreign countries through Post Offices.
The
Citi bank has conveyed their unwillingness to continue their service beyond 31st
January 2015 and there was no other partner bank to continue the service. Mo
Videsh service was offered by India Post through Citi Bank as a settlement partner
bank for Eurogiro transactions.
This
service was not at all a success due to many factors like lack of proper
publicity, lack of co-operation from operative staffs, complexity in procedure,
etc. This service was first introduced
in Head Post Offices there after it has extended to all offices. Even if the service was own product of India
Post, the employees has not given much importance for booking MO Videsh.
